AUDIT ASSISTANCE

Whether you are a new entrant or the company with years in business, your company’s future depends on safety audit/compliance review outcomes. It takes serious dedication and organizational skills to keep paperwork required by the DOT in compliance and order. We can conclude from our many years of experience that a majority of the trucking companies, especially smaller companies, don’t obey DOT rules and regulations simply due to a lack of knowledge. Even if your CSA score is not alarming, you must be prepared, as it may not take much for the DOT officer to pay you an unexpected visit.

We will walk you through every step of the DOT audit. Before the audit, we will work with you to make sure your paperwork is in order and up to date. Our specialists thoroughly examine driver qualification files, maintenance files, hours of service, driver logs, financial information, drug and alcohol and business policies, and much more.

State & Federal DOT on-site inspections can be nerve-racking experiences for even the most experienced and prepared carriers. Barnes Safety & Consulting, LLC safety experts will be on-site during the inspection, acting as  your “safety consultant” to handle all communication with the DOT officer and help resolve all possible issues on the spot.

MOTOR CARRIER DRIVER & VEHICLE FILES

Carriers must maintain a record for each driver in their Driver Qualification file and maintain a Vehicle File for each vehicle operated by the carrier. These files are required to be maintained in accordance of federal motor carrier safety regulations and subject to random inspection by state and federal agents.

Let us help you build and maintain a FMCSA compliant filing system before an audit takes place.

CONSORTIUM SERVICES

If an employer has more than one CDL driver/employee subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing, the employer may manage its random testing program or must join a consortium to administer testing. Companies with only one CDL driver (e.g., owner-operators) who are not leased to another motor carrier, are required to place the driver in a consortium for random testing purposes.

POST-CRASH INSPECTION INVESTIGATIONS

If you have a commercial motor vehicle that's involved in a crash, it is very likely that a post-crash inspection will be conducted by a CVSA certified inspector. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration also requires law enforcement jurisdictions to conduct a post-crash inspection if a fatality occurs as a result of an accident. We understand that a post-crash investigation in this situation can be very stressful for everyone involved.

Barnes Safety & Consulting, LLC employs several certified CVSA inspectors and certified Post-Crash CVSA inspectors. Our experienced inspectors served as instructors for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol that actually taught the post-crash curriculum to motor carrier enforcement Troopers all over North Carolina.

These post-crash inspections can often benefit the motor carrier or insurance company representing the motor carrier by proving their vehicle was in a safe operating condition and the driver was in compliance at the time of the crash.

If or when your commercial motor vehicle is involved in a crash situation, regardless of who is at fault, it is important for you to know the methodology of the post-crash inspection and the time sensitive information that will be required. A crash with a fatality could or will most likely generate a compliance review (CR) from FMCSA.

Barnes Safety & Compliance, LLC can provide you with a third party evaluation during these untimely situations. Our main objective is to ensure that your motor carrier operation is safely operating and in compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation, before a crash occurs.

ANNUAL DOT VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTIONS

An annual dot safety inspection is a thorough inspection of a commercial vehicle to ensure that it is in compliance with State Law and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Per FMCSA CFR 396 regulations of periodic inspections, there are a number of vehicles that require an annual DOT inspection, including:

  • Commercial motor vehicles that weigh over 10,000 pounds

  • Vehicles that transport more than 16 passengers (including the driver)

  • Vehicles that transport hazardous materials

  • Passenger buses

  • School buses

This comprehensive check ensures that each truck, bus and trailer meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.

This includes a visual inspection of the vehicle’s exterior and interior, as well as a test of its braking, steering, and lighting systems. Our certified DOT inspectors will also check the vehicle’s tires, wheels, and suspension components for any signs of wear or damage.

Even the windshield wipers will be inspected!

We offer this as an on-site service for our customers or the inspections can be conducted at our facility in Middlesex, NC.

CORPORATE SECURITY & FIREARMS TRAINING

We offer a variety of security assessments and even concealed carry handgun courses for residents of North Carolina. These classes provide the experienced shooter with the state-mandated information and qualifications to legally conceal and carry their firearm where allowed.

We offer private firearms training classes anywhere throughout North Carolina.

We also offer public CCH classes monthly and these classes are taught year-round across North Carolina as well. Each class is (8) hours.
